Chris O’Brien
Chris O’Brien is the founder and Managing Director of Hungry Giant, a game changing business, that has bought innovations to the waste management and recycling sector, with its unique approach to turning waste into a commodity.
Chris has owned several service businesses since he was 18. He invented and sold his first waste compacting machine by the of age 23, and for his efforts was selected as a National Finalist in the MyBusiness Awards, 2008. Chris has put his invention into service in some of Australia’s largest companies, universities and government organisations. He leads Hungry Giant’s national sales team, focusing on finding his customers money-saving solutions that divert waste from landfill. Chris also heads the strategic direction for Hungry Giant, now taking the company to new levels and providing total waste service solutions to their clients.
Chris has been the recipient of several business awards, has been listed as ‘young gun’ in business, Anthills top 30 under 30 awards 2009, and Best Green startup for 2009, and many more.
Chris has certainly been through some tough times, anything from constant product development issues, to not having enough money to pay wages! Chris proudly states that he has graduated with honours from the university of hard knocks, yet he humbly acknowledges he has a lot more to learn. He has been toted as an ‘environmental crusader’, but prefers to be known as ‘just a bloke who’s having a go’.
Chris is a young, vibrant entrepreneur with a zest to create a great business that not only solves environmental issues, but also provides a great value added service to his clients. Chris is hungry to succeed, Hungry Giant by name, Hungry Giant by nature.
