Dr Tyrone Pitsis is a senior lecturer in the school of Management, and director of the Centre for Organisation and Management Studies at UTS Business.

Tyrone S Pitsis is Co-Director of the Centre for Management and Organization Studies (CMOS) at the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS), and Senior Lecturer in the Executive MBA program at UTS.  He received a PhD in Management from the University of Technology, Sydney, and honours in Social Science – Psychology from the University of New South Wales.

Tyrone has published in the areas of managerial and organizational innovation, and investigates the positive psychology of project based organizing – particularly how collaboration promotes process and practice innovation. He publishes in some of the world’s leading management journals including Organization Science (A*), Organization Studies (A*), International Journal of Project Management (A), Management Learning (A), Executive Excellence amongst others. In 2010 Tyrone was a recipient of the prestigious Emerald Management Reviews Citation for Excellence Award for “(Be)coming a practice” which appeared in Management Learning (written with Kjersti Bjorkeng and Stewart Clegg).  The award recognises the top 50 papers out of 15,000 papers appearing in the world’s highest ranked journals in management, marketing, finance and economics and accounting. He also has several critically acclaimed books and book chapters to his name, including one of the Australian Financial Review’s top business books, as rated by AFR readers, Managing and Organisations (SAGE, NY) with Stewart Clegg and Martin Kornberger, and his latest publication is Pitsis (2010) The Handbook of Organizational and Managerial Innovation (Edward Elgar: NJ). He is also an author on the forthcoming OECD report on Building Managerial and Entrepreneurial Talent.

Tyrone has several Australian Research Council grants investigating process improvement in project based organizations, and is currently working with an international team of researchers in Norway, investigating ideawork.  Ideawork investigates the process improvements necessary to promote idea generation in the creative industries.  He is also working with several large organizations in identifying the sense making capabilities necessary for process improvement in service design and delivery. He is currently working with Westpac, CBA, The Royal Australian Air Force, The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Oncologists, Ernst & Young and IBM. In the past he has assisted TNT, Delft University, KONE Elevators, NSW Dept. of Education, and Penrith Council in process improvement.  Along with Natalia Nikolova, Martin Kornberger and Stewart Clegg he is also investigating the role that business analysts play in promoting creativity in the creative industries.
