An evening in Davos

EVENT: Wednesday June 09 2010
The Utzon Room, Sydney Opera House - 6:00pm to 9:00pm

A PERSONAL INVITATION FROM BUSINESS21C EDITOR MIKE HANLEY

Over two years as MBA students at the London Business School, Adrian Monck and I developed a close friendship. Although we live on different sides of the planet, we have written two books together:

* Crunch Time: How everyday life is killing the future, and
* Can you trust the media?

Today, Adrian heads up communications at the World Economic Forum, one of the world’s preeminent non-governmental organisations.

Now in its fortieth year, the Forum’s annual meeting in the alpine village of Davos attracts over 2,000 of the world’s top leaders from business, government, the academy, science and technology, the media, and civil society.

I’ve managed to convince Adrian to come to Sydney following the Forum’s Summit on East Asia in Ho Chi Minh City in early June.

I would love to be able to invite you to a dinner party with Adrian and half a dozen or so influential members of Sydney’s business community… but he’s only in town for one night, so instead Business21C will host something just slightly less intimate.

The upside is that it’ll be in Sydney’s top venue – the Utzon Room at the Sydney Opera House – and there will be food and refreshment for the body, as well as the mind.

Flying in from Asia, Adrian’s mind will be fizzpopping with many of the issues that occupy the world’s business and political leaders, and he’ll be sharing his perspective with us:

  • What are today’s major risks to globalisation, political stability and sustainability?
  • How has the world changed post-financial crisis, and what does this mean for organisations operating in this “new world order”?
  • Why do some organisations cope better with the challenges of the new business environment?

It will be an evening of freeform discussion led by one of the world’s foremost communicators. It will not be your typical business event. Please join us if you can.
